For the MS Bike tour this year we plan to make great use of the APRS system.
This will require that all of the vehicles carrying locator beacons be able to reach a
digipeater and ultimately, an I-Gate (gateway to the Internet). We intend to
place a portable digipeater on the top of a mountain (elevation >2000 feet)
about 7 miles west of Gettysburg. All locator beacons will repeat through that
and with it's high elevation, all data should make it to the NCS at the start/finish.
There the location of every vehicle will be displayed in real time on a map.
We will need a couple of folks who would like to hike in about 2 miles to get to
the top of the mountain with the equipment. It isn't an easy hike … just ask
Dan, N3EEI or Jeff, KB3RCT. This will be the second time we've placed a repeater
up there.
